home of her daughter. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal, 
N.Y. Native of Burnwood, Pa. Preceded in death by her husband, Burton Tanner; 
and son-in-law, Richard Maynard Sr. Survived by daughter, Mary Maynard of 
Asheboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Ester and Tom Natale of Binghamton, 
N.Y., Rachel and Ed Ward of Kirkwood, N.Y.; son, Gordon Carpenter of Cuyler,

ASHEBORO-Joseph Boone, 89, passed Feb. 2nd, 2006. Funeral services will be 
Feb. 5th, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro; Rev. 
Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Entombment will follow in Randolph Memorial Park. 
Born in Seagrove on March 6, 1916 to Roby S. Boone and Elizabeth K. Harper. 
Both preceded him in death. Preceded in death by four brothers, Wade, Willie, 
Paul and Clarence; and one sister, Daphne. His wife Margie in November of 
2004. Surviving: two daughters and their husbands, Jeanette and Jimmy Hinshaw 
of Asheboro, Elaine and Coach Boyd of Melbourne, Fla.; three grandchildren, 
Todd Hinshaw and wife, Elizabeth, of Wilmington, Pam Martin and husband, 
Greg, of Cornelius, Cheryl Joyner and husband, Sam, of Dallas, Texas; five 
great-grandchildren, Will Hinshaw of Wilmington, Callie and Addison Martin, 
both of Cornelius, Jacqueline and Samuel Joyner, both of Dallas, Texas. Also 
surviving are two sisters, Eva Stevenson of Asheboro, Opal Berryman of 
Rockingham; two brothers, Lee Boone of Laurens, S.C., and Phillip Boone of

TRINITY-Mrs. Jean Summerlin Smoot, 64, passed Feb. 3, 2006. Funeral will be 
at 2:00 pm Feb. 7th in the Mausoleum of Oakwood Memorial Park in High Point 
with the Reverend Otis Collins officiating. Born January 26, 1942 in Caldwell 
County to William Bruce Summerlin and Wilda McGee Summerlin. Married to 
Gaston W. Smoot who preceded her in death on October 18, 2003. Preceded in 
death by a daughter, Donna Lynn Hunt on October 13, 2003. Surviving are three 
sons, Christopher Smoot and wife, Judy of High Point, David Hunt and wife, 
Rosa of Trinity and James Clay Hunt of Avery County. Three granddaughters, 
Jennifer Lauren Hunt, Nicole Hunt and Naomi Ruth Haney. Sister, Donita

Asheboro City Cemetery, Asheboro. Born April 15, 1912 in Randolph County, NC 
the daughter of Oliver and Ora (Henley) Henry. Widow of Carl G. Lamb who died 
in 1972. Survived by one daughter: Jane Graham of Austin, TX ; one son: David

July 14, 1918 the son of the late William Henry Harris Rich and the late

Wilson, John Wilson, Craig Wilson, great nieces, Renay Wilson Morgan and

June 28, 1913, in Randleman, the daughter of Willard Canby and Mary Peninah

Dorothy Carter. Surviving are his wife, Patsy A. Carter of the home;

Asheboro; son, Shawn Dean Carter of Randleman; parents, Folger and Dorothy

Convalescent Nursing Home. Graveside service will be Feb. 18th, 2006 at 11:00 
a.m. at Cypress Presbyterian Church, Cameron, NC; Rev. David M. Cameron. Born 
on November 13, 1921 in Norcross, Georgia to the late Lester Charles Allison, 
Sr. and Ivah McDaniel Allison. On June 26, 1943 Lela married John Curtis 
Mackey who passed on Oct. 18, 1943. On October 25, 1947 Lela married Melvin 
Turner Cameron of Cameron, NC who passed on April 2, 1995. Survived by one 
daughter, Jane C. Darwin and husband Dr. J. Robert Darwin of Asheboro, NC and 
two sons, Dr. John D. Cameron and wife Susan D. Cameron of Asheboro, NC, and

(Rob) Bridgers, of Wilmington, N.C., three grandchildren, Justin McLarty, of
