He was born in Cornwall, England, and had been a resident in this country about 24 years. In his death, the community in which he lived has sustained a loss. He was a man of great industry, of the strictest integrity, of much mechanical skill, of exemplary deportment, and a man who attentively "minded his own business." --Com. Additional Comments: Please note that John "Gluys" is no doubt a newspaper typo, so should, at the very least, also be listed as "Gluyas" (which is how it's spelled in the census, as well as in the man's papers held at the Southern Historical Collection at UNC, as well as his son, Thomas' historic home in Mecklenburg Co., NC).
