This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Margaret Bates mrbates@swbell.net ==================================================================== 24 May 1887 - Randolph County, North Carolina Will of Alfred Brower In the name of God I Alfred Brower being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existance do make and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and form following. First, my Executors herein named, shall provide for my body a decent burial and pay all expenses together with my Just debts, howsoever and to whomsoever owing out of the monies on hand at my death or that may first come into their hands as part or parcel of my estatee. I give my beloved wife Emilie B. Brower all my property both real and personal, except such as is otherwise disposed of in this Will, to have and to hold during her natural life in satisfaction and in lieu of dower and one third of all my real estate. Item, I give my Son Rufus A. Brower the folowing real Estate and Mills Viz, 1 tract of land lying in Randolph County on Richland Creek containing 26 acres, on which the Mills known as Moffitt Mill is situatated, 1 other tract on the waters of Richland Creek containing 80 acres and 1 tract containning 11-1/2 acres, Known as the Marly tract. To have and hold to him and his heirs in fee simple forever. Item I give my son Rufus A 1 tract of land lying on the East side of Deep River, known as the Goldston place, containing 250 acres. Item - Whereas my two daughters Laura Adaline and Ellen Lee are both minors and will not be of full age for some years to come. Now, therefore my will is that my beloved wife Emilie is hereby appointed their Guardian to have and to hold the custody and Guardianship of their respective persons and estates, and to provide for them a good education, and hold their estates until they severally arrive at the age of 21 years or shall marry. Item-In order to make all my children as near equal in the division of my estate my will is that my Executors pay to Laura A and Ellen L each when they arrive at the age of twenty one years or may marry the sum of $2,000 each out of such as may be on hand, or to be made out of such of my estatye as can be best spared to be theirs absolutely. My will is that all the balance of my property, both real and personal including my Mansion and Mills on Fork Creek, be sold after the death of my beloved wife Emilie at public sale, and the proceeds of the sale be equally divided between all my children, share and share alike. And lastly I appoint my wife Emilie and my son Rufus Brower my Lawful Executors, to all intents and purposes to execute this my last Will and Testament, according to the true intent and meaning of the same, and every part and clause thereof hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made Sept. 26, 1881. Witnesses: L. O. Sugg, C. D. West. Whereas I Alfred Brower have made My last Will and testament in writing bearing date Sept. 26, 1881 and have Made Sundry devises and bequeaths according to them existing circumstances of my estates which circumstances haveing been materially changed. I hereby give my wife Emilie B and daughters Laura A and Ellen L and Son Rufus A a tract of Land lying in Moore County on the Waters of Reedy Creek containing 351 acres -- And I further will and direct that the tract of Land make a part of my Will and testament of which this codicil is hereby declared to be a part May 24, 1887.
