Stanback Fred J. Stanback 74 of 241 Confederate Avenue, general partner in Stanback, Ld a nationally known Drug manufacturing firm died at Duke Hospital Wednesday of a heart seizure. He was being prepared for an operation for which he had entered the hospital. The funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am at First Methodist Church and burial will be in the Rowan memorial park. The family has asked that the memorial be made to the individuals favorite charities in lieu of Flowers. The body is at the Somerset Funeral Home. Mr. Stanback was born Dec. 2, 1897, in Mt. Gilead, the son of Charles and Della Ingram Stanback. He was married to the former Elizabeth Cawthon of Georgia and they are parents of two children, Fred Stanback Jr. of Salisbury and Mrs. Nancy Jean Stanback Brumley of Durham; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas M of Salisbury, Harris I. Stanback of Lexington, Ky, and Lamar Stanback of Miami Fla; one sister Mrs. Frances Marshall of Marshall Virginia. Mr. Stanback attended college at N. C. State Co where he studied textile manufacturing. After service in World War I, he held positions with the Acme and Wisc asset Mills and later with the Federal Government as agent in charge of disposing of surplus war materials in Philadelphia. He left the government job about 1924 and was persuaded by his brother Tom Stanback, to join the then small firm which manufactured headache powders. He was placed in charge of sales and proved a most effective salesman for the Stanback firm started growing in many directions and now has sales over much of the United States. He was also the first president and one of the founders of what is now Security Bank and was a director for years. In addition to his advertising acumen, Mr. Stanback was a quietly effective salesman for many community causes. For his community services, he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humanitarian Service by Catawba College in 1954. He was a member of the college board of Trustees from 1944 to his death, one of the founders of the Salisbury Community Foundation, one of the organizers of the North Carolina Heart Association and a director for years, and interested in the city recreation program. He was active in Chamber of Commerce affairs, the Salisbury Country Club and a past president of the Salisbury Civitan Club. He was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of First Methodist Church and served it as a steward and a Trustee.. Additional Comments: Co Founder of Stanback Headache Powder.. Died of a sudden Heart Attack..
