Last Will and Testament of James Norton – 21st April 1812 In the name of God Amen, know all men by these presents that I James Norton of the State of North Carolina and Richmond County do mak (sic) and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say first, I recommend my soul to God and my worldly goods I dispose of in the following manner— In the first place I lend my dearly beloved wife Nanny Norton all my land and plantation where I now live and all my stock of all kinds, and all my household firnature (sic) and working tools of all kinds to hir (sic) dureing (sic) the time of hir (sic) remaing (sic) my widow after hir (sic) death or marrage (sic) my desire is that all my estate of all kind be equilly (sic) devided (sic) between my five children namely Rhoda Norton, Matthew Norton, David Norton, and Wiley Norton and Nanny Norton. my will and desire is that my estate shall not be sold but remain as within mentioned. I do constitue (sic) and appoint my wife Nanny Norton and my son David Norton executors to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and fixed my seal this 21st day of April 1812.
