Previous to that time Stansel was Post Master of the Old Bear Bay Post Office which was located a half mile down the Rail Road tracks east of Allenton. The office itself was established by the United States Postal Department, and it was housed just across the Rail Road tracks from the old Bunyan Stansel home. It was named Allenton in honor of W. H. Allen, Train Master of Wilmington, North Carolina. After the death of the elder Stansel, his son Bunyan H. Stansel became the Post Master, and continued to serve in that capacity until his death. The Post Office was then discontinued on September 30, 1957, and local mail was then rerouted to the Lumberton Post Office. The old Allenton Post Office was a multipurpose building, serving as a Post Office, General Store, and a Depot. The last passenger train made it’s way by Allenton in the year 1954. Even today one can go inside the old building and view the old wooden mail boxes that residents once came to check for their mail. Since the closing of Allenton in 1957, the building has been used for storage, and in later years as the site of the newly formed Allenton Church of God. Since the creation of Allenton, there have been several namesakes added to the community. Allenton School opened it’s doors in 1928, in the 1960’s Allenton Store opened beside Allenton School, and shorly thereafter a subdivision named Allenton Acres was established on Hwy 211. Throughout the years many local families frequented old Allenton Post Office to conduct business, and also to get their mail. The only surviving list of Postal Recipients of old Allenton Post Office is gleaned from the 1900 Robeson County Directory. Those families who received mail at Allenton were as now follows; i.e. the families of: N. M. Allen, W. F. Baxley, L. Brisson, Davis Bullock, Mrs. Nepsy Byrd, R. F. Ellis, John Fields, F. M.
