To the Honorable the General ASsembly of the State
Of North Carolina ~
 
            The petition of Moses Hill
of Robeson County, humbly sheweth unto
your hon~ble body, that so it was, your
petitioner, before his intermarriage with
his present wife, had by her a daughter
who has been called and known by the
name of Elisabeth Page ~  Your petitioner
by his marriage with the mother of the
said Elisabeth endeavored to make
atonement for his guilt ~ and therefore
prays your Honorable body, to take the
hardship of his case under your
consideration and paSs a Law, to
alter the name of the said Elisabeth
to that of Elisabeth Hill and to
legitimate the said Elizabeth
and your petitioner as in duly
bound will ever pray &c ~
