See [ITEM # 9] enclosed herein. TRANSCRIPTION: To all to whom these present shall come I John Hawthorn Senr. Do send Greeting I the said John Hawthorn Senr. Of the State of No Carolina + County of Robeson for + in consideration o the Love good will + affection which I have and do bear towards my grand Daughter Elisabeth Newberry daughter of John Newberry of the State and County aforesaid Have given and granted and by these present do freely give and grant to my said Grand Daughter Elisabeth Newberry her heirs Executors administrators or assigns a Negro Boy about four years old Named Ned, with a revenue of the Service of the said Negro to Elisabeth Newberrys wife during her natural life after that to descend to my grand Daughter aforesaid To have and to hold the above given and granted negro made to her the said Elisabeth Newberry her heirs and assigns hence forth as her and their property absolutely without any manner of condition In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hands and seal this 8th day of April 1809 – Signed seal;d and Delivered John Hawthorn (seal) In presence of Willis Haman Richard Lamb August Term 1813 - This deed was acknowledged in open court and ordered to be registered JMcQueen D.C.
