During the later part of the decade of the 1850’s he, his family, along with his mother, left Robeson Co NC and moved to Henderson Co TN. Evidence of this is shown in the Deed and Census Records below, as will as the Last Will and Testament of his father John Lewis. Deed from Starkey Lewis to William Lewis, Robeson Co Register of Deeds Office This Indenture made this the Seventh of May in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Six between Starkey Lewis of County of Robeson, State of North Carolina of the one part and William Lewis of County and State aforesaid of the other part, witnessed that for and in consideration of the sum of two Hundred dollars to the said Starky Lewis to him in hand paid, by the said William Lewis the receipt + payment whereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain & sell a certain piece of parcel of land being in the County & State aforesaid and left to him by his father at his mothers death, & lying and being on the south East of Play Hill Branch, and adjoining the lands of William Walters & Francis Floyd, and his Brother John Lewis being his half of the land Willed to him by His father John Lewis containing one hundred fifty acres more or less & aSsigns & he the said Starkey Lewis do hereby warrant & defend the Same land to the said William his heirs and aSsigns, signing all claim share to said lands to him & his Heirs & aSsigns forever and against the claim of all other persons after my mothers death.
