Robeson County, NC - Jesse Leggett to Benjamin Lovett, 1850 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jesse Leggett To Benjamin Lovett This Indenture made this 26th day April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty between Jesse Leggett of the County of Robeson and the State of North Carolina of the one part and Benjamin Lovette of the State and County aforesaid of the other part. Witnessed, that the said Jesse Leggett for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred Dollars to him in hand paid of the said Benj. Lovit the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Jesse Leggett have Bargained and sold unto the said Benjamin Lovett all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Robeson and on the Ten Mile Swamp. Beginning at a pine on the South West side of the swamp, Jesse Leggett's **unreadable** east corner and runs with this line North 30 W.86 chains to a stake Jesses corner thence N.60 East 90 chains to a stake thence a direct line to the beginning containing three hundred acres. To have and hold the said land with all its appurtenances to the only proper use and benefit of the said Benjamin Lovit only such timber as will square 12 inches and upward that that said Jesse Leggett may think proper to cut of in five years from the date of this instrument his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Jesse Leggett for himself his heirs executors and administrators do covenant and agree with the said Benjamin Lovit to warrant the said land unto the said Benjamin Lovit his heirs and assigns free and clear from me my heirs and all other persons. In testament whereof said Jesse Leggett has set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written. Sealed and delivered in the Jesse Leggett (Seal) presence of. Witness Thos. Britt ___________________________________________________________________________ North Carolina Superior Court Robeson County July 9th 1888 Then was the written deed produced before me for Probate and S.D. Collins being by me duly sworn say's that Jesse Leggett the grantor and Thos. Britt the subscribing witness therefore are dead- he further says that he was well acquainted with the hand writing of the said Thos. Britt having had business with him and often seen him write and that the name of Thos. Britt so subscribed to said deed is in his own proper hand writing.
