ROBESON COUNTY, NC - MILITARY - Joseph Walters, Civil War Military Record ----¤¤¤---- Joseph Walters, Private, born in Robeson County, NC and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Robeson County, NC at age 20 on 18 May 1861 in Company D 18th Regiment, NC Troops. Present and accounted for until captured at or near Gettsburg, Pennsylvania on 3-4 July 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland between 15-18 October 1863. Paroled from Point Lokout on 18 February 1865, and transferred to Boulware's Cox's Wharves, James River Virginia where he was received on 20-21 February 1865, for exchange. Reported present with a detachment of paroled and exchanged prisoners at Camp Lee, near Richmond, Virginia 28 February 1865. Joseph Walters was born 14 February 1840 Robeson County and died 20 February 1920 age 80. He is buried at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetary, near Barnesville.
