More on the companies of whom these men belonged are as follows: Capt. Blocker’s Company was organized in Cumberland Co NC and was later designated as Company F 24th Regiment. They were known as the “Cumberland Plow Boys”. Capt. Crockett’s Company was organized in Johnston Co NC and was later designated as Company C 24th Regiment. They were known as the “Clayton Yellow Jackets”. Capt. Dillehay’s Company was organized in Person Co NC and was later designated as Company A 24th Regiment. They were known as the “Roxboro Grays”. Capt. Duffy’s Company was organized in Onslow Co NC and was later designated as Company B 24th Regiment. They were known as the “Onslow Guards”. Capt. Lane’s Company was organized in Johnston Co NC and was later designated as “Lone Star Boys”. Capt. Love’s Company was organized in Robeson Co NC and was later designated as Company G 24th Regiment. They were known as the “Highland Boys”. Capt. Spivey’s Company was organized in Franklin Co NC and was later designated as Company K 24th Regiment. They were known as the “Poplar Springs Grays”.
