Taylor applied for pension, age 78, a resident at Howellsville postoffice, Robeson County, NC. He enlisted in Company K, 40th Regiment NC Troops in the spring of 1862. The following is a summary of information found in the application: Applicant was not wounded. He suffers with something like rheumatism which has drawn his hands all up so he cannot open them. He has swimming of the head which sometimes causes him to fall when in his field at work. He is also nearly blind and deaf. He cannot do sufficient work to support himself. Physician remarks: applicant suffers from chronic rheumatism that deforms his hands. No hope of relief. He also suffers from verdigo and weakness of the eyes. Not fit for hardly any labor. The tax book shows that this man's wife has property worth over five hundred dollars but it consists principally of unimproved land and he himself is very feeble and his hands drawn all out of shape so he cannot use them well. Signed W. H. Humphrey C.S.C. August 11, 1902. Application was disallowed.
