State of North Carolina ) Robeson County - ( On this 27th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty three personally appeared in open Court, before Shadrack Howell James Storm and William Townsend the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Robeson County, now sitting Milbea MuSselwhite a resident of Robeson County State of North Carolina, aged Eighty two years, who being first duly Sworn, according to law, doth on his oath, make thie following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of CongreSs passed 7th June 1832 (Viz) That he volunteered for three months, in the Service of the United states as a Malitia man in the County of Bladen North Carolina, under the command of Col Thomas Brown, and Captain Nathaniel Richardson, to go in pursuit of the Tories near Fayetteville North Carolina, the tories were defeated by General Caswell at the widow Moore's creek, and the Regiment to which he was attached was discharged until further orders - 2nd That he again Volunteered for a term of three months in the Service of the United States, as a Malitia man under the command of Col Thomas Brown or Col Thomas Robeson the Regiment to which he was attac hed was commanded often by Col Thomas Brown ---------------------------------------------------------- 3d Questions by the Court where were living when Called into Service, where have you lived since, the Revolutionary war, and where do you now live - Answer. I lived in Bladen County, North Carolina when called into Service, and have and still continue to live there (that is to say that part which is now called Robeson County) ever since the Revolutionary war- 4th Question by the Court - How were you called into service, were you drafted, did you volunteer, or were you a Substitute if a Substitute, for whom - Answer. I was drafted for the six months Tour, in the rest of my tours I was a volunteer - 5th Question by the Court. State the names of some of the Regular officers who were with the Troops when you served, such, continental and malitia Regiments as you can recollect and the general circums tances of your service - Answer - I knew General Rutherford when I was Attached to his regiment near Cheraw South Carolina I knew Colonel Thomas Brown + Colonel Thomas Robenson of Bladen County North Carolina I was well acquainted with the Militia Captains with whom I served during my revolutionary tours viz Capts Nathan Richardson, Captn John Ellis, Captn Peter Robeson and others - Sixth Question By the Court. Did you ever receive a discharge from the service + if so by whom was it given + what has become of it Answer I was in every instance verbally discharged Seventh Question by the Court. State the names of some of the ---------------------------------------------------------- person to whom You are known in Your present neighborhood and who can testify as to You character for veracity and their believe of Your Services as a Soldier of the revolution Answer I know of no person living who served with me in the revolutionary war nor have I any documentary evidence nor can I prove by the direct testimony of any person my services as a soldier of the revolution. And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion after the investigation of the matter + after putting the interagotaries prescribed by the war department that the above named applicant was a revolutionary soldier and Served as he states. And the Court further certifies that it appears to them that Joseph Regan + James Smith who have Signed the preceeding certificate are residents in the County of Robeson State of North Carolina that they are credible persons and that their statement is entitled to credit.
