The she is the widow of John Powell who was a Revolutionary Soldier that She heard her husband the said John Powell say that he was drafted that She believes he served under the command of Capt. Whithead Cap Middleton Capt. Gillaspy + others that she believes he was in the service 18 months. That her husband the said John Powell employed a yong man in this County to prosecute his claim that after a considerable length of time this yong man told him that nothing could be done for him, that she + Mr. John Powell were married in the year 1816 that Mrs. Powell Maden name was Mary Humphry that her husband the said John Powell died 19th of January 1851 aged about 90 years. That she heard him say that others were getting Pensions + that he ought to get one pension too. But that the infirmities of old age had overtaken him + that he was not able to posecute his claim she therefore makes this application for the whole amount of pension due her husband the said John Powell up to the day of his death for the service rendered by him in said war. her Mary X Powell mark State of North Carolina ) Robeson County ) On this the 27th day of February 1854 Personally appeared before me the undersigned one of the acting Justices of the peace in + for said County Mr. William W. Powell a resident of said County who being duly sworn deposeth + saith that he believs was a Revolutionary Soldier + that he often heard him say that he lived in Duplin County in time of said Revolutionary war + that + that he came from Duplin to Robeson County + that he lived in Robeson County until he decd about three (3) years ago he futher says that he is well acquainted with Mrs. Mary Powell widow of said John Powell + that she is living. William W. Powell Declaration In order to obtain the benefit of the 8 section of the act of CongreSs of 3rd March 1855 State of North Carolina ) Robeson County ) On this the 14 day of April 1855 personally appeared before me an acting Justice of the peace in and for said County + state Mrs. Mary Powell aged about 75 years a resident of said County in the state aforesaid who being duly Swoen according to law declares that she is the widow of John Powell deceased who was a private in the Revolutionary war that her said husband's services are already proven + on file in the pension office amongst the papers made out by this declaimant to obtain a pension under the act of the 3 of February 1853, which has been allowed her as the widow of John Powell. She futher states that she was married to the said John Powell in the year 1816 the date of which marriage is already proven by her in the application for the pension aforesaid as will as the time of the death of the said John Powell + that she is still a widow. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty Land to which She may be entitled to under the act approved March 3rd 1855. Moore Clerk of the Superior court in said State and county, the same being a court of record Mary Powell aged about Eighty years a resident of Robeson County in the State of North Carolina who, being duly swoen according to law declares that she is the identical Mary Powell who was a pensioner on the roll of the agency at Fayetteville, North Carolina and whose pension certificate is herewith returned; that she has resided since the first day of January A D 1861 as follows at her son W. W. Powell's in the county of Robeson and State of North Carolina that during this period her means of subsistence were provided for her by her son W W Powell that she has not in any manner aided or abetted the rebellion earnestly desire it suppression by force of arms and that she was last paid her pension On the fourth day of March A.D. one thousand eight hundred and Sixty one. This application is made for the purpose of secu =ring a restoration of her name to the pension rolls and of obtaining a new pension certificate such as she may be entitled to under existing laws reference being made to the evidence heretofore filed in the pension office to substantiate her original Claim.
