Feb. 10, 1815, Raleigh Minerva War of 1812 DESERTERS—The following Soldiers of the 3rd Regiment of Riflemen are hereby published as Deserters from the Army of the United States. Fifty Dollars will be given for the apprehension of either of them, upon delivery being made to any office of the Army, or by securing either of them in jail and giving due notice to the nearest Rifle Officer. HENRY POLK (properly, HUGH), born in Mecklenburg County, N. C. , aged 25 years, five feet eight inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes dark hair and by occupation, a capenter – deserted from Charlotte, N. C., June, 1814. JOHN EDWARDS, born in New York, aged 24, five feet 10-1/4 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair and by occupation a laborer, deserted from Cabarrus County, N. C. , 11th June, 1814 JOSEPH HARPER, born in Tennessee, aged 21 years, five feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, black eyes, black hair and by occupation a laborer – deserted from Germanton, N. C. 21st July, 1814. IRA W. ADKERSON, born in Bedford County, Va., aged 26 years, five feet ten inches high, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair and by occupation a farmer – deserted from Guilford, N. C. August, 1814. C. , aged 40 years, five feet seven and a half inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes, sandy hair, and by occupation a hatter – deserted from Randolph County, N. C. , 9th Sept. 1814 JAMES WILLIAMS, born in Randolph County, N. C., five feet ten and one-half inches high, fair complexions, dark eyes, dark hair and by occupation a laborer—deserted from Randolph County, N. C. 12th Sept. 1814. WILLIAM MILREE, description not exactly known, easily recognized in Mecklenburg County, N. C. where he is now lurking – deserted from Cantonment Greene, near Charlotte, N. C. 30th Oct. 1814. C. 29th Sept. 1814 WILLIAM BRITT, born in Robeson County, N. C. aged 35 years, five feet eight inches high, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair and by occupation a farmer; one front tooth out, slow of speech and slow of movement, downcast look – deserted from Lumberton, N. C. 29th Sept. 1814. WILLIAM MUSGROVE, born in Liverpool, England, aged 28 years, five feet nine and a half inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair and by occupation a schoolmaster – deserted in Cambridge, S. C., 16th Oct. 1814. JOSEPH JENKINS, born in Rowan County, N. C., aged 19 years, five feet seven inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair and by occupation a brick- layer—deserted on the march from Cambridge, S. C. to Charlotte, N. C. 16th Oct. 1814 JAMES CROSBY, born in Marion District, S. C. , aged 21 years, five feet seven inches high, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer—deserted from Marion, S. C. 17th Oct. 1814 JAMES HENDERSON, born in Robeson County, N. C., aged 25 years, five feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, dark hair and by occupation a farmer—deserted from Cantonment Greene, near Charlotte, N. C., 1st Nov. 1814 TARLETON BENFROW, about five feet six inches high, 18 years of age, tan complexion, blue eyes, light hair, handsome, well-made, active, sprightly and fond of dress: reported unwell the 13th Oct. 1814 to LT. SPARKS at Union Courthouse, S. C., as a soldier of the 24th infantry, who had been captured by the enemy and effected his escape. He was temporarily attached to CAPT. ROBESON’S Company and deserted from the same at Cantonment Greene, near Charlotte, N. C., 10th Nov. 1814. CAPTAIN CAMPBELL’S COMPANY— JOHN DAUGHTERY, born in Northampton County, N. C., aged 20 years, five feet nine and a half inches high, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a silversmith, latterly accustomed to the sea. He is remarkable for his extreme silence and downcast appearance, addicted to intoxication, and when drunk is both sullen and stupid – deserted from Rowan County, N. C., 20th Nov. 1814 JAMES THOMAS, born in South Carolina, age 23 years, five feet nine and a half inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair and by occupation, a sailor; high cheek-bones; looks like an Indian and has the meaness and audacity to impose himself on recruiting officers – deserted from Richmond, Va., Dec. 24, 1814 CAPTAIN BRANDON’S COMPANY WILLIAM LANE, born in Culpepper, Va., aged 30 years, five feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and by occupation a farmer – deserted from Wilkesboro, N. CAPT. CALHOUN’S COMPANY— ROBERT CRAFTON, born in Pitt County, N. C., aged 36 years, five feet six inches high, of dark complexion, hazel eyes, black hair and by occupation a farmer – deserted from Union Court House, S. C. 10th Sept. 1814 ADAM HUFFSTELLER, born in Lincoln County, N. C., aged 33 years, five feet --- inches high, of light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and by occupation a farmer – deserted on the march from Charlotte, N. C. to Richmond, Va. 20th Nov. 1814 DANIEL TOLER, born in Orangeburg District, S. C., aged 18 years, five feet three inches high, fair complexion, yellow eyes, black hair and by occupation a farmer – deserted 6th Oct. 1814 from Edgefield, S.C. JOHN HAMBREE, born in Pendleton District, S. C., aged 27 years, five feet seven inches high, of dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a carpenter – deserted from Franklin, Ga., date unknown EPHRAIM McLAIN, born in York District, S. C., aged 27 years, five feet eight inches high, of fair complexion, brown eyes, dark hair and by occupation a farmer, deserted on the 25th of Nov. 1814. It is trusted that the good citizens of the United States will not refuse their exertions in attempting to apprehend these deluded and abandoned soldiers, who, at a period like the present day, have the folly and the meaness to desert the standard of their country.
