When the planing mill of the Butters Lumber Company was started the pressure of steam blew out the elbow of the pipe, scalding Fuller Waters, the engineer, and Furney George and Charles Schulemyer, employees, who were in the engine room. Young George, who attempted to escape from the room by crawling through the fly wheel, was overcome by the steam and was so badly burned that he died in a few hours. The injuries of the other men were severe, but are not considered dangerous. George was from Jacksonville.
