He had not been well for some time, but was come up to town yesterday and became ill during the night. Surviving are his wife, 3 sons and one daughter; one brother, Ernest BAXLEY of East Lumberton: 4 sisters, Mrs. Myrtie BARNES of Lumberton, Mrs. Emma ELLIS of east Lumberton, Mrs. Ola DEAN of Shannon and Mrs. Annie HINSON of Laurel Hill. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther BAXLEY of Lumberton. Additional Comments: [Note: There were two other obituaries for Atlas. The one dated November 12 gives his family: Mrs. Jessie MERCER BAXLEY, the Rev. Robert E. BAXLEY of Conway, S.C., PFC Charles BAXLEY of the US ARMY, stationed in Nome, Alaska, and Maurice Pope of the home and one adopted daughter, Joyce Lee BAXLEY. It also states his mother was called Sudie, rather than Susan BAXLEY. It lists a grandson, Robert Earl BAXLEY, Jr and identifies his stepmother, Mrs. Lula BAXLEY and his half-brothers and sisters: Marvin BAXLEY of Lumberton, Mrs. Eva BRITT, Mrs. Frances DAY and Miss Josephine BAXLEY, all of Lumberton.
