W. Boone Dies At Ripe Age _____ Confederate Veteran Succumbs to infirmities of Old Age – Funeral at Methodist Church Sunday Afternoon and Interment in Family Cemetery. _____ Mr. J. W. Boone of route 2 from Lumberton died at the Thompso Memorial hospital Saturday at noon from the infirmities of old age, having attained his 83rd birthday. Funeral services were conducted from Chestnut Street Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. T. McM. Grant, pastor, and interment was made in the family cemetery, a few miles from town, on theCarthage road. Mr.Boone was a Confederate veteran, serving in the 51st regiment, Co. E, during the struggle between the North and the South. He was one of the oldest citizens of the county. Deceased is survived by three sons – Mr. W. C. Boone of R. 2, Lumberton, with whom he lived; Mr. J. A. Boone, Raleigh; Mr. John Boone, Franklinton; and Mr. W. C. Boone of Changhat, China. A brother, Mr. J. A. Boone, who lives on the Carthage road, also survives. The funeral Sunday afternoon at Chestnut Street Methodist church was attended by a large crowd. In his remarks at the church the pastor, Rev. T. M. Grant, spoke of the fidelity of deceased to his God, to his county, having answered his country’s class during the civil war, and to his home, and he quoted one of the children of the deceased as saying that he never in all his life heard his father say a word to be ashamed of. The pallbearers were Messr. D. D. French, J. P. Townsend, J. R. Poole, R. E. Lewis, W. W. Davis and F. P. Gray. The remains were interred in the family cemetery on the Carthage road, about 3 miles from Lumberton.
