Britt, 75, prominent lawyer, were held at his home on North Elm here Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Officiating ministers were Dr. D. Swan Haworth, pastor of the First Baptist church of Lumberton, of which he was a member, and Dr. J. Glenn Blackburn, pastor of the Wake Forest Baptist church and chaplain of Wake Forest college who was a former pastor of the First Baptist church here. Interment was in Mr. Britt’s mausoleum in Meadowbrook cemetery beside his wife, Mrs. Arla Clyburn Britt, who died several years ago. Dr. Haworth quoted from Whittier, read the 23rd Psalm and other Scripture passages, and led in prayer. Dr. Blackburn, spoke of him as a friend, one who took responsibility, a tireless worker, a man of lonely courage, one who kept his face up, and was never sorry for himself. He also spoke of his affiliation to the church and belief in God. Mrs. J. A. Martin played several hymns on the organ prior to the and at the close of the service. Pallbearers were: Active – R.A. Hedgpeth, Sandy McKinnon, Luther J. Britt, Sr., E.M. Johnson, A.B. Mitchell, Walter York, Dr. J.B. Alexander, and Dr. George Alien; honorary pallbearers were members of the Roberson Bar association.
