Collins James C. Collins, 71, of 409 East Fifth Street, a former lumber dealer here, died Saturday night about 8:30 at the Veterans hospital, Fayetteville. Funeral services are being held today (Monday) at 2:30 P.M. in Stephens Funeral Chapel, with Rev. A.P. Stephens conducting. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. Mr. Collins, a son of the late Lodrick and Mrs. Ila Byrd Collins, was born and reared in Lumberton, Rt. 3. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Vernie Willis Collins; two daughters, Mrs. Todd W. Barton of Lake Worth, Fla., and Miss Betty Jean Collins of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three sons, Douglas of Greensboro, Hilburn of Charlotte, and Samuel Collins of Lumberton; ten grandchildren; and one brother John H. Collins of Lumberton, Rt. 3. Additional Comments: Other: James Clarence Collins was the husband of Vernie Mae Willis and son of Loderick Tanner Collins and Ila Byrd. His siblings were Archie Collins, Fannie Collins (Johnson), John Henry Collins, and Mary Elizabeth Collins (Herring) and Emily Collins (Prevatte). His step brothers: Hardy Tanner Collins, Alexander Collins and step sisters: Alice Aquilla Collins (Hardin), Lillie Virginia Collins (Davis) and Margaret Carolyn Collins (Floyd) and Annie Collins (Carter). James Clarence Collins and Vernie Mae Willis had the following children: Willis Douglas Collins, James Hilburn Collins, Hilda Reid Collins (Barton), Betty Jean Collins (Finley), and Samuel Loderick Collins.
