All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Michael Walters MeWalt7@aol.com September 7, 2008, 10:10 am The Robesonian, Jun 29, 1914 The Final Summons Mr. Furney Davis of Raft Swamp Mr. Furney Davis, aged 72, died at his home near Raft Swamp Saturday morning at 2 o'clock from the effects of injuries received in a wreck on the S A.L. at Armour some four years ago, when a freight train crashed into the rear of a Confederate veterans special, returning from Wilmington. Deceased is survived by four children. The funeral was conducted by Rev. W.R. Davis, pastor of Raft Swamp Baptist church, of which deceased had been a member for 45 years and had been deacon for several years, and interment was made in the family burying ground. Deceased was a Confederate veteran, and the last one in his community, and was one of Robeson's most highly respected citizens. Additional Comments: Furney Davis was born Mar 5, 1842 and died Jun 27, 1914. He married Elizabeth Johnson March 31, 1870. He was the son of James P. Davis Jr and Elizabeth Small.
