"Death of Amos Hardin, A Good Man Gone to His Reward," This community was shocked Wednesday when the sad news of the death of Amos Hardin was spread. Though he has been sick for several weeks, his friends did not think the final summons was so near. Mrs. Amos Hardin was a most worthy citizen of Saddle Tree Township. He was 58 years old and was highly appreciated by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of Jerusalem Holiness church, at which the funeral was preached Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. by Rev. H. H. Lowrey, text, "Great is your reward in heaven; after which the remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground near Aunt Christian Locklear's. The unusually large congregation which attended the funeral and burying showed the appreciation that the people had for the deceased. The large crowd of people consisted of whites, Indians and colored. Brother Hardin was a faithful Christian. He maid a good record which will never die. He was a useful man in his community, always ready to help others that needed his assistance. He was a good veterinarian and when a neighbor needed his assistance he always went without charge. He enjoyed helping others. He had learned that the true way to be happy was to try to make others happy. Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Caldwell of Lumberton attended the funeral and burying and at the grave Mr. Caldwell made the following remarks; "I have been acquainted with Amos for 25 years, and always found him honest and true. I was his friend. He never came to me for a favor but what he got it. I have talked with him in times of prosperity and distress and he always was cheerful and would say that God would take care of those who were faithful. His faith in God was a prop to his life. We all ought to exercise faith in God. For we can't go through life without a prop. I am glad to be here to express my high regard that I had for the deceased." The writer sympathizes with the bereaved family. The deceased leaves a widow, three daughters and five sons to mourn their loss. Additional Comments: He was the son of Dolphin and Harriet Bell Hardin. He was the grandson of Hardy H. Bell.
