G. Inman) Fairmont, June 7 – The ranks of the Confederacy are growing thinner and thinner. Last Tuesday night Mr. Hugh Gee Byrd passed away, in his 87th year. His passing leaves only one veteran in Fairmont, Judge A. E. Floyd. Deceased spent many years of his life in Fairmont, where he made many friends. Mr. Byrd was a splendid conversationalist and up to a few days of his death could recall vividly incidents of his early life or during his service in the war. Funeral servces were conducted in the First Baptist church by Dr. T. H. Plemmons and interment was made in the church cemetery.
