E. Israel Rites Largely Attended Services for Farmer and Teacher Held at Antioch Baptist Church. One of the largest crowds ever to gather at Antioch Baptist Church witnessed the funeral yesterday of A. E. Israel, 67, a deacon, church secretary and former Sunday school superintendent who died suddenly at his home Saturday morning. The impressive rites wre conducted by Re. E. A. Paul pastor of the church assisted by Rev. Dr. C. H. Durham, and interment was made in the Israel Family Cemetery. Mr. Israel, is a former school teacher and had been farming in recent years. In addition to his church activities, he was an officer in the Woodmen of the World camp. His death was attributed to an heart attack. Surviving are his widow and five children, Delmar, Carlyle, Felix Israel,, Miss Hermie Israel and Mrs. Margaret Branch all of the community. The eldest of 15 children, Mr. Israel is also survived by 5 brothers and 5 sisters, Dave F., H. B. and Fife Israel of Lumberton, R., 5, John Israel of R. 2, Rev. Frank Israel of Danville, Va., Mrs. Rebecca Britt and Mrs. Bessie Perry of Lumberton, R. 5, Mrs. Cheston Branch of R. 2, Mrs Sallie Smith or R. 1, and Mrs. Elias Davis. Additional Comments: Note: Terry Johnson 19 Oct 2008 Born: Alfred Edwin Israel (called Ed): 27 July 1871 to Araminta Ward and David Fentress Israel son of Molcy Hester & John Israel son of Lemuel Israel and Olive Regan daughter of Richard Regan a 2nd Lt. in the American Revolutionary War, son of Joseph Regan Jr., son of Joseph Regan son of Francis Regan, son of Daniel Regan born in Tara, Cork, Ireland. Ed Israel was married to Mattie Neva Ennis. He ran the A. E. Israel school in a building near an U. S. Post Office in the Lower Burnt Islands of Robeson County, North Carolina which is still standing today.
