Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Mr. Haynes Johnson, 1934 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1,000 People At Funeral of Mr. Haynes Johnson ________ Prominent Barnesville Man, Victim of Pneumonia, Laid to Rest in Presence of Great Throng. ________ A crowd estimated at 1,000 people gathered at Barnesville Baptist Church Sunday a 3 p.m. for funeral services for Mr. Haynes Johnson, 73, prominent Barnesville citizen, who died in a Lumberton sanitarium Friday at 10 p. m. following a several Days illness with double pneumonia. He has been a patient here a week. In conducting the rites, Rev. E. A. Paul of East Lumberton spoke beautifully of Mr. Johnson's life as a good citizen and a valuable Church member who will be missed by the community. Assisting In the service was Rev. J. W. Bradley of Fairmont and Rev. Dock Barnes of Lumberton. Music consisted of selections by the choir, a quartet composed of Messrs. H. Sealey, June Hardin, Margie Ivey and Emory Stone and by Mrs. Clyde Williams, soloist. Interment was made in the family cemetery beneath a mound of lovely flowers. Pallbearers were Messrs. J. R. Herring, A. F. Hardin, June C. Hardin and E. T. Lewis. Surviving are his widow; 2 sons Messrs. Wade of Barnesville and Fred of Lake View, S. C.; 4 daughters---Mesdames Clyde Flowers and Latie Parnell of Barnesville, Mrs. Lilian Ward of Chadbourn and Mrs Alton Formy Duval of Old Dock, Columbus County.
