The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 14 June 1898
Lumberton Robesonian: James McFadgen, a Findlander, in the employ of the
Butters' Lumber Company at Hub, was drowned in the Big Swamp last week. McFadgen
left Hub in search of whiskey and was not seen again until his body was found.
It is believed that he was intoxicated when he fell into the swamp. The body was
buried at Hub Thursday.
