CLARISSA J. MERCER By J. M. Fleming Mrs. Clarissa J. Mercer, wife of Mr. Rowland Mercer, Jr., of the Bellamy section, passed to her reward Monday and was buried Tuesday in the midst of a large concourse of relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted from the residence by her pastor, Rev. J.T. Tyner, and concluded at the grave by the writer, who was a former pastor. Deceased was born June 21, 1873, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Branch, the mother surviving. She was married to Mr. Rowland Mercer, Jr., September 21, 1893, and to them were born two sons and one daughter, who together with their father, survive. She joined the church early in life and at the time of her death, and many years before was a member of the church at Singletary’s Cross Roads. She was a faithful member, and was one of the most consecrated Christian women we ever knew. She was devoted to her home and her tender ministries in the community will be greatly missed. “Verily her price was above rubies.” We feel like it can be truthfully said of her the she is not dead, but asleep. The pallbearers were Messrs. E.R. Phillips, J.R. Mercer, M.F. Bryan, F.M. Parnell, W.F. Nance, and C.R. Mercer.
