MERCER FUNERAL RITES Funeral services for Mr. Mercer were conducted from Singletary’s Cross Roads Baptist church Wednesday at 3 p.m. by his pastor, Rev. J.M. Fleming, with interment in the family cemetery on the Mercer farm. Mr. Mercer was born on Nov. 4, 1872, near his home on Lumberton, R.5. and was raised there in the Allenton section. Before turning to farming in recent years, he had worked for the Batters lumber company and had served as postmaster and general storekeeper at Bellamy. He was a son of the late Noah and Mary Jane Mercer, and is survived by a brother, Griffin; 4 sisters, Mesdames J.C. Allen, William Vendrick and Oliver Meares of the Allenton section and Mrs. A.D. McNeill of Hope Mills; his widow, Mrs. Pearl Tyner Mercer, and 2 children, R.T. and Doris Lee; and by his first wife, Mrs. Clarcie Branch Mercer, 3 other children, D.W., W.T., and Mrs. Atlas Baxley.
