T. Station A Childs death from drowning added tragedy to the threat of high water yesterday, as Lumber River started rising again after driving more than a dozen families from their home here. Charles Daniel Musselwhite, 21-2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Shelton Musselwhite of the B. T section, Lumberton, R. 1, was drowned yesterday afternoon when he fell into deep water in a ditch near his home. Brought to a local hospital for resuscitation, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Coroner D. W. Biggs said he was informed that the child was playing near the overflowing ditch with several other children, and that when he fell in, the swift current pulled him through a culvert under the road and into a branch on the other side. He was recovered by Mrs. Dwight Musselwhite who went into water up to her shoulders to reach the body. In addition to his parents, the child is survived by 4 brothers, Jimmie, Hilburn, Warren and H. S. Musselwhite; 4 sisters, Ercel, Amantha, Sallie and Line Musselwhite. The funeral was tentatively scheduled to be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. from the B.-T. Church, with burial in Barker’s Methodist church cemetery.
