Monday, November 5, 1945 I.A. Musselwhite Was Buried Today Funeral services for Ira A. Musselwhite, 98-year-old Robeson retired farmer, who died at his home just east of Lumberton Saturday about midnight, were held today at 3 p.m. from Barker’s Methodist church in the B.T. section, where he lived for many years. His pastor, Rev. M.D. McLamb of Lumberton Methodist circuit, was in charge, assisted by Rev. O.L. Hathaway, pastor of Barker’s. Mr. Musselwhite had been seriously ill for 3 weeks after a long period of declining health. The body lay in state at the church from 2:30 to 3 this afternoon. He was a native of Robeson, born in Howellsville township on Dec. 11, 1876, son of the late Duncan and Mary Musselwhite. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Challie Powers Musselwhite: two sons, Ed L. Musselwhite of Lumberton and Marvin D. Musselwhite, fireman 1st class, USN, who is in the Pacific area; 4 daughters, Mrs. Ken Bramble of Hope Mills, R.2, Mrs. Clayton Musselwhite of St. Pauls Route, Mrs. Neal Barnes and Mrs. Roy Wilkins of Lumberton; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, R.T. and Wade Musselwhite of Lumberton; and one sister, Miss Della Musselwhite of Maitland, Fla. Pallbearers at the last rites were: active – Carl Britt, Bob Byrd, Raymond Kinlaw, Charlie Patterson, Earl Hendrix and Rembert Morgan; Dr. John Knox, Dr. F.B. McGrath, Dr. Frank Ward, E.J. Willis, Ernest Jones, D.H. Brown, W.R. Walker, Jesse Turlington, Dixon James, F.P. Sessoms, Sam West, Clarence West, J.R. Poole, Jr., Grady McNeill, Bob Bramble, B.C. Mears, Paisley Britt, John Jones, Joe Russ, Purvis Powers, Frank Bethune, Walter Rozier, J.H. Collins, Ira Wilkins, J.D. Herring, Bradley Smith. Interment was in the church cemetery. The beautiful flowers were in charge of Mrs. Earl Hendrix, assisted by girls of Barker-Ten Mile community. Music was furnished by the church choir.
