Mr. E. R. Phillips, Sr., of. Allenton. Mr. E. R. Phillips, Sr., 83 years old, died Thursday night at 8:45 o’clock at his home two miles from Allenton. He had been sick about 3 weeks. Interment was made Saturday in family burying ground near the home, the funeral being conducted from the home by Rev. W. R. Davis, pastor of the East Lumberton Baptist church. The wife of the deceased died about 25 years ago. Six children survive – Mr. W. C. Phillips of Georgia, Misses Mary J. and Brunette and Messrs. E. R. and J. R. of Allenton, and Mrs. Lula Vaughn of Hope Mills. Mr. Phillips was one of Wisharts township’s oldest and most highly respected citizens, a Confederate veteran, and had been a member of Antioch Baptist church for many years.
