Tuesday, Jan 30, 1940 Mrs Winnie PREVATTE passes at Red Springs. Rites for Mrs. PREVATTE Mrs. Winnie PREVATTE, widow of the late Eli PREVATTE, died Thursday at her home near Red Springs, where funeral and burial took place on Friday. The pastor, Rev. Troy Jones was assisted by Rev. C.R. HESTER and Rev Lee HUMPHREY of Saddle Tree. Several children survive, among them, Howard of St. Pauls. Additional Comments: Her death certificate says she was buried at Big Marsh Church, as does Eli's. I could not find a Big Marsh Baptist Church when I searched for it, only Great Marsh I do not know if the churches are the one and the same. I have a map of 1884 Robeson County and it shows a Big Marsh Church south of St Pauls Presbyterian Church and North of Cedar Grove Church. Although Dr Morris BRITT transcribed Great Marsh Cemetery,in which transcription he had many BAXLEYS, there was only one PREVATTE contained in its transcription. Winnie's parents were Richard BAXLEY and Elizabeth WILLIS.They are not listed in his transcription, either.
