Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Mrs. Ora A. Purvis, 1917 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Ora A. Purvis, Near Center Church Mrs. Ora A. Purvis, aged 54 years, died at her home, near Center church Saturday morning at 5:30 o'clock. Deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis about a year ago and had been in bad health since that time. She is survived by 3 children---two daughters, Mrs. T. B. Ayers of Proctorville and Mrs. S.D. Strain of Route 2 from Fairmont, and one son, Mr. H.E. Purvis, who lived at the old home. The funeral was conducted at the cemetery at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon by Rev. R. A. Hedgepeth and interment was made in the family burying ground, near the home. A large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives attended the funeral. Mrs. Purvis was married to Mr. E. C. Purvis 31 years ago. Mr. Purvis died 20 years ago. She had been for many years a member of Center Baptist church and was known as one of the most refined Christian ladies in the county. She was the daughter of Jacob Leggett born Jan 10, 1823 died May 6, 1883 and Charity Inman born Apr 17, 1830 died Mar 26, 1903. Ora married Emcoin Coe Purvis Dec 3, 1885. Emcoin Purvis was born 1859 and circa 1900. Emcoin's parents were Henry Purvis born 1831 died Jul 24, 1904 and Harriet Newell Hedgepeth born Aug 21, 1839 died Feb 27, 1911.
