J.M. ROBERTS Lumberton, R 5, Jan. 31 – Mr. J.M. Roberts, 66, well-known Robeson county citizen died at his home on Rt. 5, late Monday afternoon after a lingering illness. The funeral was conducted Tuesday p.m. at 2:30 at Zion Hill Baptist church. Burial was made in the Sessoms cemetery. Rev. I.P Hedgpeth officiated. Pallbearers were Messrs. Claude Jackson, Raymond Kinlaw, Proctor Kinlaw, Judge Wilkins, Sandy Sessoms, William Sessoms. Music was rendered by the Zion Hill choir. The following flower girls are grand-daughters of deceased: Misses Hester, Helen, Eunice and Alma Roberts. Surviving are 4 sons, H.C. and Frank of Rt. 1, Elmon, Rt. 5, J. II of Bladenboro; 2 sisters, Mrs. C.W. Deaver of Bladenboro, Mrs. Oscar Smith of Tar Heel; 3 brothers, Archie and Tom, Rt. 5, Albert of Lumberton; and 7 grandchildren. He lived all his life in Robeson county and was loved by all who knew him. He was an active worker in his church.
