H. (Pete) Russell, 62, farmer of the Floral College Community, died in Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg Saturday. He was a native of Alamance County but had lived in the Floral Community for many years. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 P. M. in Centre Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Earl D. Farthing, of the First Baptist Church of Maxton. Burial will be in the McBride Cemetery. He had been a member of Centre Church for 35 years and at the time of death he was deacon and president of the Men of the Church. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Hickman; a son, Hugh D. Russell of Maxton; a daughter, Miss Lois Russell of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Stewart and Mrs. W. G. Payne, both of Burlington; three grandchildren; four step-children. Serving as pall bearers were Carl Stephens, Joe Clark, Jim White, Ben White, Clyde Webster and Carl Gentry. Honory pall bearers were the officers of Centre Church. Mrs. Ernest Odom was in charge of the flowers and she was assisted in this part of the service by members of the women's circles of Centre Church. Additional Comments: Anoither obit states: Mr. Russell was a prominent farmer in the Floral College section but was a native of Alamance county. At the time of his death, Mr. Russell was a deacon of Centre Church and was serving as president of the Men of the Church. His first wife, the former Miss Archie McNeill preceded him in death in 1952.His parents Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Russell preceded him in death.
