Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Bennie Rhodes, 1927 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bennie Rhodes Dies After Long Illness Barnesville Man Succumbs to Rheumatism----Interment at Family Cemetery Near Home. Mr. Bennie Rhodes, 39, died at the Baker Sanatorium Monday afternoon after a long and serious illness. A cripple since he was 16 years of age, Mr. Rhodes entered the Baker Sanatorium three years ago with a complete ossification of all the joints of his body, which was brought on by a severe attack of rheumatism. He was unable to do anything except take nourishment. After about a year at the hospital, he was able to use his hands so that he could ring a bell. Funeral services were conducted at the grave at the family cemetery near Barnesville Tuesday morning by Rev. F.B. Peele of Fairmont, assisted by Rev. I.P. Hedgpeth of Lumberton. His Father at this time is unknown.
