All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Michael Walters MeWalt7@aol.com August 10, 2008, 9:57 am The Carolina Observer, Oct 16, 1832 Neill Shaw Died, at his residence in Robeson County, on the 8th inst., NEILL SHAW, Major of the 2nd regiment, in the 42nd year of his age, leaving an affectionate Companion and two infant children, with numerous relatives and friends to lament his death as a sad breach in the circle of their society. The officers of the Regiment being assembled for purposes preparatory to the Regimental Parade, which was to take place on the following day, when the intelligence of the death of Major Shaw was received: a meeting was called to take the subject of his death into consideration, and the following Preamble and Resolutions were unanimously adopted: Whereas, by the dispensation of Divine Providence, we have suffered the privation of an Officer, whose manly principles and genuine patriotism promised much usefulness to the community, and that we feel called uppon to pay this last tribute of respect of his memory---Therefore, Resolved, That each, and all of us, do sincerely deplore his dissolution as a sad and melancholy circumstance; and that we will cherish feelings of sympathy and attachment to the memory of our deceased brother. Resolved, That as a token of profound sorrow for the death of one the members of our quorum, we will wear, on the left arm, a badge of mourning for thirty days. Resolved, That a select committe be appointed to present to the consort of the deceased, a copy of the above proceedings, and to forward to the Editor of the Observer a copy of the same, with a request for publication.
