H. B. SHORT. Col H. B. Short, a gentleman well-known and liked throughout the whole Cape Fear section and one of the most prominent and influential citizens of Columbus county, died in Wilmington on Wednesday evening, August 25. He had been in failing health for some months, and had just returned from a trip to the sea- shore at the time of his death. Col. Short was a native North Carolinian, and served his State acceptably as State Senator for Columbus and Robeson counties. He was a man of considerable means, which he dispensed with a generous hand, and at his hospitable home on Lake Waccamaw the visitor and stranger always found a hearty welcome. In the death of Col. Short, Columbus county has lost one of its most valuable citizens and the State of North Carolina a true and loyal son.
