Peter P. Smith died at his residence near Floral College last Monday, the 13th inst. We do not know his exact age, but suppose he was between sixty-five and seventy. His health had been declining for several months, and it was painfully evident to his numerous friends that he was “taken with a summons,” and that “the silver cord was loosed.” Still the “passing over to the other side” of such a man as Col. Smith could not but produce a profound sensation throughout the entire community. For forty years he had been a man of mark; of splendid physique, commanding presence and unusual intelligence, a devoted husband and father, a kind and obliging neighbor, a useful citizen, “given to hospitality,” a model Christian gentleman. For several years he held the honorable and responsible office of County Treasurer, and also the still more honorable and responsible office of a Ruling Elder in the Centre Presbyterian Church. Requiescat in pace. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/robeson/obits/s/smith1583nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/ncfiles/ File size: 1.5 Kb
