He was about 45 years old, and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. His funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. P. Pate, at Regan’s church Tuesday at 11 o’clock, after which he was laid to rest in the family cemetery at that place. Mr. Smith was a jovial, kindhearted and dutiful man. He was a man of trust and confidence, and the many friends he had is evidence sufficient to prove him to be a man of sterling worth. He certainly was a friend to the poor, and will be missed by them more than any other in the entire community. He was a shrewd business man, and had made a great of money the last few years, and we suppose he was worth about $25,000. We understand his life was insured for a good sum.
