Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Rev. Moore T. Sealey, 1902 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rev. Moore T. Sealey, 1823-1902 Rev. Moore T Sealey was born in Robeson County, North Carolina, August 15, 1823, and departed this life in Lee County, Texas, February 21, 1902; was baptized in infancy, reared in the lap of the family altar, joined the M. E. church South, at the age of 15. When he grew to manhood, he joined the Confederate Army, making a brave soldier. He began preaching during the war. He was happily married to Miss Susan Pope of Robeson County, NC in 1850. She died, in 1866 leaving him seven children. In 1867, he was again married to Miss Sarah Jane Walters of Robeson County, NC who died October 18, 1878 leaving five other children. After due process of time he married his third wife, the widow Jennie Traylor. She died also in 1896, leaving him two sons, making 14 children in all. He came to Texas December 1874, settling in Brenham, Washington County. After a stay of two years he removed to Lee County, Texas where he remained until his death. He was ordained in Texas in 1875 by Bro. B.D. Dashiell as a local deacon. He filled with satisfaction the Lexington Circuit 1877-78. He was faithful in all his labors as preacher--visiting from home to home, singing and praying in each family; souls being converted to God. Bro. Sealey's health failed him for several years and he was not as active as he desired to be. He often said to the writer, who was a bosom friend, that his greatest desire was to depart this life and be with Christ. He often said his greatest desire to do his whole duty and he did as far as he was able or his strength permitted. He leaves several children, sons and daughters, with a host of warm friends to mourn his death. His loss to us was his eternal gain. He was a great believer in gospel holiness; he not only preached it, but lived it every day. He was a kind husband and most kind father. He was sick but a short time. He attended the Quarterly Conference on February 13. After returning home he was taken with something like paralysis and he was sick but a few days, departing this life February 21. He always attended his Quarterly Conference, and thought it one of great comfort. Now that he is gone let us follow on, for we know where to meet him again if faithful. He is unlike one without hope; his soul has mounted upon the wings of God's eternal love. Now, may we not say in the language of Rev. 14:18 "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; saith the Spirit, that they rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."
