Robesonian – Tu 10/30/1900
   Mr. Richard Townsend, whose sickness has been heretofore mentioned, died at his 
home Friday evening in the 76th year of his age.  The funeral services were 
conducted Saturday evening, by Rev. Mr. Harrison.  Mr. Townsend has for many years 
been considered one of our most prosperous, prominent and progressive farmers, who 
integrity of character, and strong personality has exerted a strong influence for 
good over a wide range of acquaintances.  All who knew him admired his estimable 
qualities and feel sincere regret that he will be seen no more among us.  A large 
family survives.  A more extended account will appear later.
