SAMUEL WEST

LUMBERTON — Samuel (Sam) Angelo West, of Lumberton, passed through Heaven's 
gate on Feb. 24, 2017, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, 
at the age of 62.

He was born in Robeson County on Jan. 11, 1955.

A celebration service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at 7 p.m. at 
Antioch Baptist Church to be immediately followed by a time of visitation.

On Jan. 1, 1978, he was married to Kay Boyd at Antioch Baptist Church. Sam 
West has been a dedicated employee of the Health Department and Robeson 
County for 30 years. Sam began his journey with the county at Robeson County 
DSS. Sam began working at RCHD in 1983 and has served in several Social Work 
programs. Sam was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is also an 
avid historian and was very active in the field of genealogical and 
historical research.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay West; his parents, Carl and Annie 
Pearl Todd West; and biological parents, Max and Virginia West Pulanco.

Mr. West is survived by his son, Carl West of the home; by his sisters, 
Sheila Russell (fiancé, Tommy Hendren) and Maxine Thomas (Wayne); brother, 
Luis Pulanco (fiancé, Julia Packer); brother-in-law, Rickey Boyd; and a host 
of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives and friends.
