DEATH CLAIMS ONE OF CITY'S OLDEST AND MOST BELOVED MEN. Walter Seaman (Mr. C") Wishart, 91, one of Lumberton's oldest and most beloved citizens, died at his home in the Clinton apartments here on Tenth and Water Streets last night about 7:45 o'clock, after an illness since last August. Requiem Mass will be held Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, of which he had been a loyal member for many years with Father Michael in charge. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery. The body will remain at Stephens Funeral Home until time for the rites. The family requests no flowers be sent. Began work in 1877 Mr. Wishart was born in Wishart's Township on July 17, 1859, a (Continued on Page 16) Page 16 (Continued from Page One) son of the late Wellingon Wishart and Mrs. Delaney Meares. He began work in The Robesonian in 1877 in the composing room, when he was about 18 years of age, and continued in that work for some time. He later went to Wilmington where he was employed by the S. A. L and A. C. L. Railroad Companies. Following his return to Lumberton he was advance agent for the Williams Stock Co, and was manager of the Lumberton Opera House (the building is now Lamb's Tourist Home), bringing many operas to Lumberton. He opened and operated the Pastime theatre in 1910, the first theatre in Lumberton, which was located next to Lumberton Drug Store. He also opened theatres in Hamlet, Laurinburg, Whiteville, Red Springs, and Bennettsville and Dillon, S. C., and continued in the theatre business until his retirement at the age of 80. Married In 1882. Mr. Wishart was married to Miss Willie Reaves of Lumberton, on December 21, 1882. She died on March 13, 1949. Surviving are two daughters, Mr. J. P. Townsend and Miss Elizabeth Wishart, who holds a position with the National Bank of Lumberton; one brother, John H. Wishart, and one sister, Mrs. IKra J. Flowers, both of Lumberton, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wishart was active until a year or so ago, and possessed a wonderful memory. He perhaps could tell more exact dates from memory of happenings in Lumberton, than any other person. He was quiet adn unassuming, and had a host of friends.
