ROBESON COUNTY, NC - Obituary of D. P. Walters, 1945 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rites Wednesday for D. P. Walters D. P. (Dock) Walters, 81, retired Lumberton contractor, died Monday at midnight at his home on Elizabethtown road after an illness that had kept him confined for over a year. Funeral services will be conducted from Stephens Funeral home Wednesday at 4 p. m. by Rev. I. P. Hedgpeth assisted by Dr. C. H. Durham, Dr. J. Glenn Blackburn and Rev. Edgar B. Fisher. A member of St Alban's Masonic Lodge No. 114, Mr. Walters will be buried with Masonic Rites in Meadowbrook cemetery. He was a member of the First Bapitst Church. Members of St. Alban's lodge are asked to meet at the lodge hall Wednesday afternoon at 3 to make preparation for the funeral. Mr Walters was reared in the Orrum section, where he was born January 18, 1864, son of the late Pink and Sarah Walters. He was a contractor in Lumberton for many years and also operated a farm. Surviving are his wife by a second marriage, Mrs. Valeria Burney Walters; fours sons, Oscar of Seattle, Wash., Marcus of Laurinburg, Neill of Charlotte and Manley Walters of Wilmington; and three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Jordan of Williamsburg, Va., Mrs A. C. Prevatte of Lumberton, R. 3 and Miss Lennie Walters of the home. From the Contributor: Doctor Pink Walters was born January 18, 1864 and died May 14, 1945. He was the son of William Pinkney Walters and Sarah Ann Loe. On March 30, 1885 he married Esther D. Atknson, she was born Dec 9, 1867 and died Sep. 11, 1900.
