Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Dawson Walters, 1923 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. Dawson Walters Killed by a Tree Life Crushed Out When Tree He Had Helped to Cut Down Struck a Stump and Fell Upon Him. By Mrs. H. G. Inman Fairmont, Dec 15--The people of the Baltimore section were shocked, and saddened Thursday morning when it was learned that Mr. Dawson Walters had been killed by a falling tree. Mr. Walters and a Mr. Little were in the woods near the home of Mr. Walters cutting down trees when one of the trees struck a stump, falling full force on Mr. Walters, who had not expected the tree to hit the stump. Aid was summoned and he was carried to the house. Dr. Ricks was called but did not get there in time to render any aid. Mrs. Burke Pittman, teacher at Baltimore school carried the children home from school. The Walters family lived on the farm of Mrs. Sallie Stubbs but had contracted with Mrs. Florence Mitchell to live on her farm the next year. Mr. Walters was about 55 years of age and leaves to mourn his untimely death a wife and nine children. From the Contributor: Dawson Walters was born Oct 2, 1872 and died Dec 13, 1923. He was married to Helen Stone and had nine children at the time of his death in 1923.
