Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Nellie Byrd Walters, 1944 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Walters Rites Funeral services for Mrs. Bill Walters, 90, who died after an illness of about three years at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joel Stone, near Rowland Friday night, were conducted from the Stephens-Prevatte funeral home in Fairmont Sunday afternoon. Rev. Cary P. Herring of the First Baptist church officiated and burial followed in the family cemetery. Surviving are two sons, J.T. of Mullins, S.C., and Lonny of Newport; three daughters, Mrs. W.N. Ivey of Rowland and Mrs. Roli Brumbles of Proctorville. Pallbearers were, Carl Stone, Clyde Barnes, Lenough Walters, Sandy Jenkins, and Charlie F. Stone. Those in charge of the flower arrangements were Mesdames Alton Harris, Ambra Hedgpeth, Alphonso Townsend, Carl Stone, Bill Brumbles and Misses Lois and Mildred Johnson. From the contributor: Penelope Caroline "Nellie" Byrd was born Jan 14, 1854 and died Jan 14, 1944. She married William Thomas Walters May 14, 1876. He was born Sep 9, 1853 and died Feb 8, 1936.
