Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Henry D. Walters, 1927 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Columbus County Wreck Fatal to Robeson Man EVERGREEN --- A Robeson County man died, his son is in serious condition and his grandson is less seriously hurt as a result of an auto accident Saturday night a mile east of Evergreen on U. S. 74. In addition, the driver of the other car involved is in very serious condition in Columbus County hospital. Dead is Henry D. Walters, 69, of Lumberton Route 4; his son, Harry DeWitt Walters, 44, is in Columbus County hospital, as is his grandson, Henry Douglas Walters, 13. State Trooper Mike Byrd said that the elder Walters died instantly at about 6:15 Saturday night as the three were returning from a fishing trip on the coast. Byrd said that the other vehicle, driven by Douglas Frink, 34, Chadbourn Route 2, was headed west when it rounded a curve and went out of control, skidding broadside into the Walters lane; impact was on the side of the Frink car and the front of the other vehicle. He said charges have not been made, pending the condition of Frink. Coroner J. D. Long, Jr., said that Mr. Walters died of head and chest injuries. Injuries to the others all involved the head and chest, too. Funeral for Mr. Walters will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Back Swamp Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Floyd Memorial Cemetery, Fairmont. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lizzie Harrell Walters; his injured son, Dewitt; his daughters, Mrs. LeGrande Lindsay of Burgaw and Mrs. Mitchell Lindsay of Florida; a brother Ellie Walters of Myrtle Beach, SC, 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
