Robeson County, NC - Obituary of Dougald A. Wilkinson, 1935 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dougald A. Wilkinson Passes Near Maxton (by phone to the Robesonian) Obit for Dougald A. Wilkinson the son of Alexander "Sandy" Wilkinson and Effey Leach(Leich) of Maxton, NC Maxton, Dec. 30, 1935 Dougald A. Wilkinson, 67, prominent farmer, Mason and elder in Center Presbyterian church, died at his home Saturday at 1 P. M. after a long illness. Funeral rites were held Sunday at 2 P. M. at the home by Rev. W. L. Hanna, pastor of Center church, with interment in the church cemetery. Music was furnished by a choir of male voices. Pallbearers were fellow Masons - W. H. Hasty, R. M. Morgan, C. A. Whitlock, Lee Ivey, R. B. Bullard, John Pace, C. S. McIntyre. The numerous and beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Mesdames J. O. Carr, Lawrence Buie, Misses Mary Janet White, Sarah McEachin, Rebecca Campbell, Rosalee McEachin. Surviving are his widow, nee Miss Mary McLauchlin, 2 sons - D. H. and J. D of Maxton.; 5 daughters - Misses Anna Mae, member of the Barnesville School faculty; Pearl, who teaches at Barker; Sallie Brown of Columbia, S. C.; Julia Rose-nurse at Rex Hospital Raleigh, Isabel, student of Flora MacDonald College, Red Springs. Mr. Wilkinson had been an elder in Centre church for many years. Before his health failed, he was very active in religious and civic affairs. He was one of the most esteemed men in this section, as was attested by the large crowd of friends who attended the funeral; although the weather was most unfavorable. ____________________________________ D. A. Wilkerson Passes After Long Illness Dougald A. Wilkinson, 67, died Saturday morning at 1 o'clock at his home near Floral College. Mr. Wilkinson had been an invalid for many years, and had been seriously ill for some time before his death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the residence. Full account will be given in next issue. He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Miss Mary McLaughlin, and the following children, J. D. and D. H. Wilkinson of Maxton, and Misses Julia Rose, Pearl, Isabel, Sallie Brown Wilkinson of Columbus, S. C (Dougald Angus Wilkinson was the son of Daniel Wilkinson born in Scotland.
